I recently took a trip to Vilnius, Lithuania, and wanted to share a bit about my adventure! My mother also came along for the journey, and one excursion was an absolute must-do for us: Trakai and its Fairytale Island Castle! We hopped on a super convenient tourist bus, and in no time, we were standing before that magnificent structure in the middle of the lake. Truly breathtaking! It felt like stepping into a movie.
After that, I visited a place that might not be the cheeriest, but was definitely thought-provoking: The Prison That Made Me Reflect. It was an immersive experience in the country’s darker history, a stark reminder of difficult times. It really makes you think.
Also we made our way to the Hill of Three Crosses: A Viewpoint with a Story. Climbing up to see those iconic white crosses standing tall above the city offered a fantastic panorama of Vilnius. It’s a peaceful spot with a significant historical background.
And to wrap up the day, Strolling Through Vilnius’ Heart: Where Every Stone Whispers History. Walking through its narrow streets, seeing the churches with their towering spires, and soaking in the city’s atmosphere was fantastic. The center has a special charm, with old buildings and a very welcoming vibe.
But Vilnius has so much more to offer beyond what we saw in just a few days! If you ever get the chance to visit, I highly recommend checking out:
- Getting Lost in the Old Town: A Labyrinth of Surprises! It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site! Every corner reveals a beautiful square, a church with incredible details, or a charming courtyard. Vilnius University is a gem, and simply wandering without a map is the best plan.
- Užupis: The Independent Republic That Will Steal a Smile. This bohemian neighborhood is pure creativity! With its own constitution (translated into many languages), art galleries, and a very laid-back atmosphere.
- Climbing Gediminas’ Tower: The Best Views in Town! The panoramic views from up there are spectacular, especially at dusk when the light bathes everything in warm colors.
- Cathedral Square: The Heartbeat of the City! With its imposing cathedral and bell tower, it’s a central meeting point and a place steeped in history.
- Immersing Yourself in History at Its Museums: A Journey Through Time! From the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights (the former KGB headquarters), which gives you goosebumps, to the National Museum, to understand Lithuania’s rich culture.
- Tasting the Local Cuisine: A Feast of Flavors! Don’t leave without trying cepelinai, šaltibarščiai if it’s warm, and kugelis. They might surprise you!
- Experiencing the Vilnius Nightlife: When the City Doesn’t Sleep! There are plenty of bars and pubs with a great atmosphere to enjoy a drink and good company.
We encourage you to watch the video that follows to see more of our Vilnius trip.
